The Navarrian Disputes are an interdisciplinary project which embraces many different issues and fields of science. That is the reason why each month Toruń is a host to representatives of different academic domains.
Lecturers suggest discussion topics themselves, however while doing so, they take into account the topicality of the problem, their own research conducted in this discipline as well as suggestion provided by the citizens. The topics are usually formulated in as questions or controversial statements.
Every dispute consists of two parts. In the course of the first part a lecturer, having acquainted himself with opinions sent to dysputa@gmail.com, outlines the topic and sketches the main lines of argument he will use in order to defend his standpoint. The second part consists in answering questions and doubts arising among participants. The dispute may also commence with outlining the range of issues, prevalent stereotypes and mental schemas.
Every professor of medicine who visits Toruń or Bydgoszcz does not only prepare a dispute but also acquaints himself with the scope of activity and research work of UMK. These visits create a unique opportunity for students, candidates for doctor’s degree and the Department’s authorities to meet and discuss forms of future collaboration..
Spanish guests also conduct a series of meetings with students of gimnazjum from Radomin (Golub-Dobrzyń County) during which they touch upon questions adapted to the youth’s interests. The lectures take place in the Chopin Centre in Szafarnia – one of the organizers of the project.
Professors may also, of their own accord, accept invitations received from other institutions in the region.
